An open question to the group

An open question to the group

2007-08-12 by Paul Haggard

Greetings to all,

I have never really posted on this group, though I have been a member
for quite some time now. I have been very busy the last couple of
years with only time to look through the messages now and again.

I am hoping to find a quick answer to my question...

Earlier this year, in mid April, I was the winning bidder on an
auction on eBay for a series III machine - a very nice one at that. I
actually know the seller and he is a member of this group
(ensnareyou). I paid him in late April and he has never shipped
anything - even after repeated e-mails and discussions with him. It
has now been almost 4 months and I am having to consider an attorney
for a lawsuit and pressing wire fraud charges. It's sad that it has
come to this.

My question is very simple however - Is there anyone here in this
group who bought a series III from ensnare earlier this year around
April? I would hate to accuse him of selling it privately and running
a sham auction but I suspect that may very well be the reason he has
not sent it in that he already sold it - Either that or he still
intends on selling it to double his money. Perhaps he just can't let
go of the machine as he has owned it a long time. Whatever the case
may be I know that I am out of a lot of money and have nothing.

I admit it's a terrible thing to accuse him of, but then I again I
have been burned so badly on eBay several times before that I wouldn't
put it past anyone to try.

Thanks one and all for any replies.

Best Regards,
Paul

Hello Paul,

I am sorry to hear about your story. I can offer no help, but just to let other people know that eBay fraud is very active. Yesterday I was the high bidder on a DREAM console, I knew it was too good to be true but thought I would try anyway. It would have been good for spare parts.

The eBay listing is this one…

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180146917601&sspagename=ADME:X:RTQ:AU:11

See I was the winner!! (FairlightUS)

Unfortunately the actual item for sale (I found out after the auction ended) is listed here…

http://www.gearsource.com/products.cfm/cat/Audio%20Gear%7CConsoles/sort/Newest/cpage/3/nper/10/product/FAIRLIGHT%20DREAM%20CONSOLE%20/pkid/7026.html

The scammer was using a hijacked eBay account using an item that really is for sale on another site. The payment details were sent to me about an hour ago asking for payment to a Russian bank (via a Manhattan account).

Everyone, beware.

Regards

[Steve Rance]
