IIx for sale on Vemia

IIx for sale on Vemia

2007-11-07 by Alexander Guelfenburg

Hi guys,

well, if you watch the picture of the opened mainframe then you can
see that there is one card for the lightpen and another card for the
video monitor. So this is an old 6800 system with the new series II
voice cards. (The words "old" and "new" have a funny meaning in this
context ;-) )

INHO the price is too high for a non working system. They say that
the PSU is broken but you never know what is behind that. Nobody
tells you how many voice cards are not working and if the monitor,
lightpen, etc. is OK. So, pretty much risk for that price.

If it was working, the Series II would be fun, too. So, thank you
Hans for that link! :-)

Cheers,
Alexander

Yes, one is missing.
But, there is included one card "extra". Read the description.
However, I have not been able to get any info on what cards are mounted in the frame, what version they are.

This extra card is a series I card, since it has only one trim pot. It is the most left card in the spare parts picture. The series II/IIX cards have got 7 pots.

I like the series I cards, they have a more crunchy sound and I got my private IIX equipped with 8 of them. Sounds great! :-)

Because this is a combined auction-lot with all the remaining Fairlight-stuff from the Dutch Fairlight-distributor, Synton.
Buy this and you´ll get a lot of stuff that you probably won´t need. Or, maybe you do !
I´d say the price is right, for the right person. Don´t expect it to be a "cheap" working CMI, cause it most likely isn´t !!
Good for spareparts or if you have the skills ( and an extra voice-card ) to fix it.
It has a fault in the powersupply which could be as easy as a broken fuse ( which I doubt ) or something much much worse.......

If it's a series II/ IIx, why are there tapes included?

Does anybody have a description of what these 7 pots actually do? I've
got a download of the service manual, but the channel card chapter is
left out.

I've got some minor differences in channel volume, which I attributed
to the fact that I got a mish mash of versions in there. I wonder if
it's possible to do something with the trimming.

B.t.w. finally got around to removing the infamous battery. It wasn't
as bad as I thought it would be.

Greetz,
Patrick

Looking at the pictures of the Fairlight at VEMIA I see an XLR-output at the back labelled
Sampling Filter Out.

What's the purpose of that output?

Hi David!
I believe it is just for monitoring the sample through the sampling
circuitry (as in you can hear what it will sound like when sampled)
Been a long time, so I could be wrong!

Here is my Series I and it looks very similar.
I would presume it is a Series I that has been upgraded to a Series II
