Series IIx or Series III

Series IIx or Series III

2003-10-17 by Kevin Kelley

I currently have 2 series IIx's that I repaired and now have working
100%. I love the IIx library of factory sounds as well as some I have
aquired when I purchased the IIx's. My question is; I see that the
series III will play the IIx library. I like the specs on the series
III as well. How does the IIx library sound when played from a series
III ? I currently use my Emulator III to sample and process new
sounds but I would love to consolidate my studio. I have several
vintage pieces of equiptment and spend a lot of my time repairing
small things instead of playing. I am at the stage where I am
thinking of selling the whole lot and picking up one good
workstation. That workstation of coarse being a series III. Does this
sound like something I may regret to those who know.

Hi Kevin and the rest of you lot,
The IIx sounds do translate well on to the series III, but for some
reason the sound better on their native device. However getting your
IIx library onto the Series III hard drive is a good way of preserving
IIx sounds, remember 8' disks won't be around forever. Perhaps we
should badger disk manufacturers to let them know there is still a
market for 8' disks!! Looking forward to seeing you all at the meeting.
bye for now
Gerald

Hi Kevin,

 I own both a CMI 11X and CMI 111 instruments. I didn't get a very complete
library with my 11X. Do you have the complete Peter Wielk 1.2 library for
the 11X ? Where are you located ? I would love to copy this library from
you. Perhaps if I pay you for your time and I supply the disks would you be
able to copy the library for me?
Regarding the sound comparisons with the 11X library. I haven't actually
a-b'd the 11X and 111 as I am waiting to setup both instruments in a new
studio space. I currently have the series 111 which I have recently updated
with new 4 gig drives. The main thing I miss so far from the 11X is being
able to have some functionality on the computer keypad and being able to
move the loop in real time while playing a sound.
 I hope all is well!

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
