Selling Series III advice
2013-04-04 by arroncx
Hi All, Im going to start preparing my CMI III 9.34 for sale. Its been great fun, but Ive never had It working fully for a protracted period of time, and at this point I don't see myself ever getting round to fully servicing it. Some of the faults are way beyond my ability to fix :) I should say thank you to all list members who have assisted with helping me get this running, and keep it running over the years, and I have very much enjoyed the journey :) Ive learnt a lot. Im going to spend some time this weekend preparing all the stuff to list it here and my question would what would I need to do, to detail all the work necessary to fix it all up, and fully represent its partially working state ? None of the problems in themselves seem to be show stoppers, but I would certainly like to sell it to someone on the group who at least understands the implications of the current faults and would hopefully be committed enough to do the final steps to get it fully working for themselves. Its was bought from horizontal production when Peter was in the UK originally, but it has been upgraded since : It have 14Mb of RAM, and the newer Horizontal Productions 3.5 inch IBM SCSI Hard Drive installed, with all the original CMIIIX, CMI III libraries etc. It has the VGA card, and also the 24 output router card. The system does boot up, detects all the memory and boards and operates normally with the exception of the following : CMI Music Keyboard has groups of notes which are not detected : IE the bottom 1 and half octaves works, then theres a group of notes covering about 1 octave that fail to trigger, then its OK for a couple of octaves, then another failed group of an octave, then its OK to the top. All notes are fine under midi control. The sampling card is detected, and samples, but with clicks in the sampled material. I have a another spare stereo sampler card which gives the same results. The graphics pad works, but the cursor cannot be moved right to the edge of all four corners, making it difficult to select some to the buttons at the bottom of the screen (i.e. LOAD). The lights under the buttons on the music keyboard don't work. I also have a box full of spare memory cards mostly removed 2mb cards), the old mono summed master out card (it has the stereo card) and the old mono video card. The system still has a working 8 inch disk, and boots off a spare set of 8 inch 9.34 boot disks. I think that is about it : but in addition to some photographs showing the cosmetic condition, what other info would you guys need to feel the system was fully described ? I am based on the Isle of Man in the UK (in the Irish Sea (In between Ireland and Mainland UK), and I was thinking about 4500 GDP would be a reasonable price for the system and spares. So the big questions are What else would I need on the listing to fully describe the system, and do you think that the price is reasonable ? Im sorry if this seems a vague request, but I don't have any experience of listing a "Mostly Working" system before, and did think of just selling off all the parts on ebay, but it seems a shame as someone on the list could probably fix the remaining issues If they had the time and skills that I don't :) Cheers for your time, and apreciate your thoughts ! Best : Arron
