IIx Disk export utilities

IIx Disk export utilities

2013-12-31 by andrei.kudryavtsev@gmail.com

Hi All,

I don't remember we have discussed it here:
Have anyone here tried it? it was recently discussed in Mirage group.
I honestly would love to see CMIOS9 with CO export functionality and ideally to have both tools - CMOIS9 and that project combined together. CMIOS9 is amazing as file management tool, but I'll be happy to see some " sample librarian" capabilities :)

Hi Carl,

Your description of the .co file contents is excellent. Great work there :)

Hi!

Yes, http://www.nattvard.com/iix is my site. I haven't gone official with it yet since I've been working on a lot of enhancements lately.

I've actually found one CO-file that doesn't work, can't remember which though. But the viewer seems to work in 99% of the cases.

Some of the news to be released shortly:

- Fairlight disk image to Akai S900 disk image

- Wav2vc - upload a wav or a zip with wavs and get a VC or a Fairlight disk image

- Wav2akai - same as above, but Akai S900

Some of the plans for the future:

- CO editor

- SF2 export

- Mirage export

- Drum machine EPROM to VC

- Screenshot converter

- SFZ (or some other text-editable format) to CO and/or S900-preset

- IN tools

Also, I will release the source code when I've tidied it up. It's a mess right now...

I just replied Andrei in the Mirage group and I thought it would be relevant for you too. Andrei asked if I considered using the source code of CMIOS9 instead of PHP.

Here's my reply.

I've studied the source code of CMIOS9 a lot and it's a very powerful tool. All respect to CMIOS9!

However, I'm actually a web programmer and for me creating the tools in objected oriented PHP (my native language) felt more natural. I think it's they are two different "products" with totally different purposes. CMIOS9 would end up bloated if I'd add all my stuff.

While CMIOS9 has the complete disk management, I've put the weight on translating features and other stuff that I personally need. My project has no intention to ever replace CMIOS9 or to replicate all its features.

On using PHP - it has both pros and cons.

Some of the cons are:
- Requires a web server
- No compiled executable
- No possibility to access hardware like floppies, scsi, usb etc

Pros:
- Platform independent
- Easy to create a web GUI (as you can see on nattvard.com/iix)
- Easy to connect to a database (in my case a MySQL server with all disk images in)
- Object oriented

I will be releasing the source code when it's cleaned up. I'll also include instructions how to run it on your own computer using a portable web server like Xampp on PC, or the built in Apache on Mac and Linux.

Hi Carl,

thanks for reply. I realize the main idea is to have Mirage conversion implemented which is great for Mirage users. Every software developer uses the way which is more convenient in specific case. Often efforts are duplicated. That's why I pointed CMIOS9, of course, assuming you know it.

My work flow is a bit different, I'm looking for local preview tool before powering on Fairlight system. I'm not only interested in IIx, I have CMI III and its library (assume you know who can supply it :). For IIx floppies I found simple way to use Fairlight iOS app, It has all the compatibilities to load all native IIx formats. That is great for me, at least, as I said, for preview purpose. According to conversation with developers, that app will never support CMI-III voice file format and it's layering. That's sad. CMIOS9 also have limited export capabilities for CMI-III. I meant it could export wavs ok, but not layering information.

So, that's the reason why I'm looking for single tool with multiple format support. VJO Wave looks very promising for these needs but it requires to have implemented a lot.

Are the file formats used in the CMI III sounds documented anywhere?
