Re: [Fairlight-CMI] Single Sided disks useable in a IIx?
2003-12-19 by Daniel Walters
Thanks to everyone who provided guidance on this.
Alexander, the index hole info was very helpful – I’ve been able to sort my unlabeled disks! I’ll contact you privately about buying some more DS/DD blanks, and about sending 2 faulty voice cards for repair.
Now, is anyone interested in some SS/DD disks? Turns out I have 49 total – 30 of which have never been used – 10 of those are still in a sealed box. (None of the used disk are CMI related – strangely)
Also, now that I’ve got them sorted, I have 65 DS/DD disk that I can reformat, but many of them are labeled and may be of interest to those in the group. Some things in the boxes:
CYWORD
CYMAIL
CYEDIT
CMI System V3.C4.05
V3.C5.07 pre-release
V3.C5.08
V3.C5.10
V3.C5.10.R.01.16 pre-release
V3.C5.10.R.01.23 pre-release
V3.C5.11
V3.C5.11 R1
QDOS 3.00
A3.00
4.1
Film Music Producer V7.12
5.21
5.22
Stavewriter Demo
V2.1
Cross Assembler XASM 68000, 6801, 6805, 6809
CMI OS-9 HD initialization disk
Again, these will all be reformatted at some point, so if anyone is interested, please contact me. No guarantees that what it says on the label is what’s on the disk, since I don’t know how to test these!
Regards,
Daniel

Hello everyone,
I posted this question a while back on the Holmes pages, maybe someone
here can help.
Is it possible to format Single Sided/Double Density disks for a IIx?
I have 3 full boxes of new disks and a whole bunch of old ones that
I'd like to use. The old disks are apparently from my IIx's former
life as a series I. I know capacity would be limited, but as long as
they would hold a few .VC and .CO files and one moderately sized .RS,
they'd be good for a one disk per song sort of thing.
All help, and the QDOS formatting commands, would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Daniel
Hello Daniel,
on the most CMI IIX these disks are not readable. The reason is the index hole. The DS/DD disks have it on another location as the SS/DD. So the IIX floppy cant´t read them becaus it has only a sensor on the place where it expects the DS/DD hole.
Without guarantee: You can try to make a hole into the SS/DD disk on the place where the DS/DD hole is. Maybe the CMI IIX accepts this disk and you can make a copy ot this disk?
I am curious about this and any feedback is appreciated.
Cheers,
Alexander
