CMI 11x ExtOdy USB extension
2004-01-16 by James Thomson
Hi Guys, I thought it would be good to bring the subject of the CMI 11X ExtOdy USB solution up again ! The following was posted by JB Edmond a few months ago. Nothing has been said about this development since. Firsty, let me say that I will gladly pay 760 euros for this significant 11x development. JB posted the following: < < For several years, I have always worked on my rack of ExtOdy extension. This rack will manage an USB interface and IDE periphericals (Hard-Disk, CD-Rom Drive). So there will be a possible permanent connection between the rack and a PC or Mac (via the USB) in order to make transfers. This rack is designed to be interfaced between QFC9 card and the 8" floppy drive. There is no modification of the CMI, it is significant for the users who are collectors too! As there does not have enough place in the CMI to put the hard disk, the power and additional electronics, these elements will be in a rack in the vicinity! I have quite advanced in the development of this rack. I acknowledge that since the first schematic design of 1999-2000, I changed much things at the electronic level. With final, I chose an interface which should not exceed a cost of 760 Euros. < < I would love to know what the latest news is on the ExtOdy USB extension for the 11X. JB, it would be great if you could keep all CMI 11X users informed. When do you think this will be available ? Can we finally forget about having mountains of 8" disks ? For me, the CMI 11X is such a great instrument. The fact that there hasn't been an alternative yet to 8" disks as a storage medium is a real shame. I believe that the 11X will work with an MFX-2 QFC-9 floppy card with 3.5" floppy drives. Peter Wielk reckons it will work, yet no one had done this yet either. There has also been talk of a sample dump solution via midi but still nothing has been done with this yet. Surely, sometime soon there will be a storage solution for the CMI 11X. JB Edmond's ExtOdy USB system is the most exciting development I have heard of yet for the CMI.I am sure many of us would buy this solution. It would be great if the CMI group could be informed of the latest news regarding this. Thanks. Regards, James Thomson Magic Audio Co. The Studio West Hampstead London NW2 3RJ U.K.
