Hi,

I currently have two Series IIx's - one has MIDI installed and the
other just needs the external I/O block to complete it's MIDI upgrade
- and two Series III's - one a standard mainframe style unit (can't
for the life of me remember the version it's running - but it's a 16mb
unit) and a Series III MFX2 with the big RAM upgrade from Peter Wielk
(ex. Chris Ringham).
I will probably sell one of the Series IIx's and the standard Series
III later on in the year - but only when I've copied the sound
libraries :-)
While I like the sound of the Series III - for me it's nowhere even
close to the Synclavier which has, IMHO, much more 'punch' and clarity
- but the Series II still has one of the most distinctive sounds and I
still love it! I think it's great that the Series II sound is now so
fashionable again!
My love affair with Fairlight started in 1983 when I watched, open
mouthed, the Peter Gabriel interview on the South Bank Show - and I
was hooked - it took me another couple of years to save up the cash to
hire out a session at Paradise Studios in Chiswick, London for a
chance to use their Series IIx (which I now own!) and PPG Wave 2.2
with Waveterm.
How can I get details of the 2004 meet? If it's easy to get to (I'm
in the chilly North) I could bring a couple of the systems with me if
that would help?
All the best,
Philip
