2MB RAM card tests

2MB RAM card tests

2004-03-12 by David J. Wilson

Aaron,

it might not be the 2MB RAM cards that are faulty,
but rather the channel cards. Peter W. said the channel cards should
be be revved to 1.9A or 2.3A work with the WaveSuper. The RAM
cards should be best be revved to 4.5 to work with WaveSuper

here's an old e-mail from Peter on the 9.34 RAM card diag subject:
------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think the corruption is due to the new software. With the new
ROM
set you can run diagnostics to check the RAM and channel cards. What
I do is
say, start off with one RAM card plugged in (you don't have to remove
all
the rest, just pull them out an inch), and run the tests. You do this
in the
following way: As the machine first boots, when you see the first info
screen, hit the space bar. Quickly type d. It'll enter diagnostics
now. Now
type m (return) This will thrash all the channel cards (you'll see
all their
LEDs lit), whilst testing the memory. If you get five passes without
errors,
all's fine, other wise errors will show by scrolling up the screen.
Each
pass is about 20 minutes with 14 Mbytes, but obviously this changes
with
total memory amount. If you get errors with even one RAM card, it may
be a
channel card at fault. Remove some channel cards, remembering they
have to
be in a continuous "block", starting with chanels 1-2, which is on
the right
of the card cage. In other words, remove channel cards from the left
of the
block. Again you don't have to remove the cards, just slide them out
by an
inch, and leave their cables attached.
