SCSI Card on PC for CMI Explorer

SCSI Card on PC for CMI Explorer

2004-04-20 by Peter Connelly (Core Design Ltd.)

Do I need any particular SCSI card/cables to connect my Fairlight to a PC? I assume a Centronics 50 Pin - SCSI 2 plugged into any SCSI card will work, for example?

Kind regards,
Peter

I'm pretty sure a Future Domain external connector will not work, because
it (seemingly) has a different pin layout from Adaptec. I think the older
Adaptec cards will work best. They are also recommended for Kurzweil.

I have two ADAPTEC 2940 cards, these are IMHO the most
popular of PCI-bus SCSI cards for PC's.

the external cable is 50-pin high-density SCSI-2 on the
end that connects to ADAPTEC 2940 card. the other end
of the cable can be either CENTRONICS or high-density SCSI-2,
it all depends on what type of external SCSI drive case you are
hooking up and what type of connector it has. I've used
both types, and I have my Kurzweil K2500S sampler hooked up to this
SCSI card with success.

I do have a brand-new version of CMI Explorer from Rob
that will support reading 4GB drives, but have yet to test it.
(I promise very soon Rob !)
The previous rev was only tested with 2GB drives and choked
when trying to open my 4GB drive. Rob's been helpful
with responding to feedback and problem-solving with CMI Explorer.

Peter, hope your able to copy those tapes to hard-drive and burn some
library DVD's or ftp that library up somewhere !
let me know how it goes.

cheers,
David
