IMHO in general grounding is better than not grounding, but I've done plenty of slow-clock boards with unconnected copper just to keep the etching happy. Usually, by the time you need to worry about these issues, you know the answer ;-) BTW in PCB, such islands are automatically removed unless you explicitly mark them to be kept.
