The macro facility on my digital camera (Fuji 2400Zoom) only lets me go down to 10 cm. I thought I'd experiment with a cheap 14x magnifier held in front of the lens - it worked quite well, although it was difficult to avoid camera shake with the two held together. With a more stable mechanical arrangement it should be quite useful for showing fine detail. See an example in the Photos area on the Group website, in 'Leon's' album.
