Back when I actually did some of these things, I just placed the board in intimate contact with a flat metal (aluminum worked perfectly) surface. Metal plate kept the rivets in and the heat away. That's been way too long ago. Upsetting the rivet is the best solution, I agree. I just didn't have any money back then. Come to mention it, I don't really have any now, either.
