I did not mean to put a surface mount uP in a socket. I use PIC uPs in DIP packages when possible. These are the ones I socket. I don't mind using DIPs if the if the project has the space. They are much easier to work with. And the pins for the chip or socket are natural vias. I have not tried soldering a chip with 25mil pin spacing yet. But that is coming soon.
