offtopic laminator

2007-01-30 by Lez

Anyone know of a laminator that gets hot hot hot! (who's been watching
big cook little cook...)

I just bought one from Asda as I killed the motor drive on my old one,
and it has a sign that says ''HOT'' but I think it should say
pleasently warm....

I used the last one for 'Toner Transfer' (with poor variable success)
but this asda one is useless.

Its just not hot enough to melt the laser toner.

Ideally I could do with one with variable heat and speed.

Lez,
If you want to try hacking it you could take it apart and hook the
heating element to an incandescent light dimmer switch.

I've had good success with three to five passes through a Creative GBC
9" laminator (the one that retails $50 at Staples) but I don't know if
it can handle a regular thickness PCB. I think the GBC Heatseal 200
can be modified via instructions on several websites to accept thicker
boards. I've also heard of people forcing the Creative to take thicker
boards by putting it in at an angle and basically ramming it through
the laminator.

Staples sometimes puts these on sale for $30 - keep an eye out, maybe
buy two.
