Homebrew PCBs

Was at a carboot sale at the weekend, go each weekend (Mass organised
yardsale, usually on farm land), 2 weekends a go I see a kyocea laser
printer, old bulky thing, looked like a fuser donor, £10 he wanted,
said it needed a new ink cartridge (!), decided to wait and see if I
could find something cheaper, I can buy a laminator for that!

Last week he and it was still in attendance.

This week as I left it was in the skip, so I got it, took it home and
opened it up, decided to plug it in, damn thing said selftest past and
throw out a test sheet, 46073 pagecount and still working a treat, I
cant strip it now I feel sorry for the thing!

Its faster and feels hotter than my 4l, so when the toners all gone
then I'll have at it

I'll throw in my bit of luck:
I bought a laminator on eBay for $15. At first I thought I got screwed
over but all I had to do was scrape the opening a little to allow a
board + paper to go through. It achieved good transfer from thick
catalog-paper after 4 passes. It would not be difficult to control the
temperature of this device. I think a few degrees hotter would work well.

Well I just come back from Asda, part of the walmart family, and paid
£11.68 or $20 and it takes my board + 1 sheet of paper when cold, but
when hot it wont fit back in for a 2nd pass!

Think I need the craft knife.............

Wife does not like me using them anymore after the accident I had last time.....

I have tried argos catalog paper(uk) failed miserably, toner goes into
the paper far too much and nothing seems to go onto the board.

I normally reply on the bottom side of messages, but the HTML that yahoo
adds makes it difficult.
Anyway,
What I did was use the back side of the blade on a heavy-duty X-Acto
knife to scrape the aluminum. I had to remove perhaps 1mm of material.
It was a bit time consuming but it was not particularly dangerous
because I kept my flesh out of the possible path of the knife. If you
have a rotary tool such as a Dremel, you could probably use it. Scraping
is an accepted however lost method of metal working by hand.

well the uk Asda laminator, model LM420H has a warning that says HOT, maybe
it should say 'pleasently warm' .............

Damn useless transfers with the paper I like, which is worrying as its
running out....

I know the paper I have I have had _lots_ of problems with, but never have I
had a 0% transfer before.

Well it does say satisfaction or your money back, so when I go shopping
again tomorro....
