PCB construction help

2008-06-07 by steve kibort

Hello,

I am looking for someone who can help me build some some very simple PC
boards. These boards would be used to install lighting in N scale model
trains. The boards would only have to accommodate a surface mount
resistor and two 2mm x 3mm LED's. Total size of the board is about 3/8"
x 3/8 " (approx). Inputs to the board are a common for the cathode side
if LED's with the resistor (need to drop from 14dvc to 3.6vdc) and two
individual feeds for the anode side of the LED's to connect the 30 gauge
wire feeds. I am hoping to find someone who can give me some simple and
direct input on 1) materials for me to quickly and simply construct
these boards one at a time as needed or, 2) is willing to construct the
boards ( I will mount the components) for me at a nominal fee in small
lot sizes on a periodic basis. Thank you.

Steve

Searching for this kind of pcb

2008-06-10 by Jerome Decock

Hello,

I am searching the name of this kind of pcb that they use for computer
keyboards, it is flexible and transparent with brown/grey traces. I am
searching a manufacturer for some proto (so small batch) and if somebody
happens to have that, a design guide (like maximum Amps/Voltage according to
track size).

Thanks.

It's just called a 'flexible PCB', you will find several suppliers with
Google. Development is expensive, and you need large quantities to get them
at a reasonable price. They should be able to advise on current-carrying
capacity; it's probably different from normal PCB material because of the
different thermal characteristics of the substrate.

If you want to etch them yourself, perhaps LaserPCBs would be right
for the task: www.laserpcb.com

(Disclaimer: I am the owner of laserpcb.com)

I have some 5 mil thick SS clad (0.5oz) I got off ebay. Once etched
it's pretty flexible (0.5" diam bends) and somewhat translucent, it
might be acceptable for your purposes, but it's not as flexible as
"flex" is.

Advanced circuits does flex protos, but not inexpensively:

check
http://cgi.ebay.com/Copper-Clad-FR4-PCB-Laminate-Material-Thin-SS-or-DS_W0QQitemZ360059745362QQihZ023QQcategoryZ4660QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
this is 'thin' PCB, no necessarily flex.
