Linux - how to print GIF image?

Linux - how to print GIF image?

2009-04-03 by gnuvvekaavaali

Folks,

I am looking at making the Easy Nixie clock here -

http://elbastl.sweb.cz/clock.htm

The PCB design is provided as a 600 dpi gif image.
gimp says the size of the PCB image to be 3745 x 2105 pixels.

I am on OpenSuse 10.2, and my printer is a Samsung MFP, SCX-4100
and it is a 600 dpi printer. I installed the latest
ver 3 Unified driver from Samsung, and all other stuff
like openoffice etc prints fine.

Can someone point me how to print this correctly?

I tried gimp, and a few image viewing programs and they
want to print it way oversize.

I was frustrated enough to consider redoing the design on
free Eagle, but then it's a bit of work, esp with the size
limits of the free version of Eagle.

I usually save the GIF file, drop it into PowerPoint or similar, then re-size. I just tried it with the GIF you mentioned at it worked just fine.

In gimp, Image->Print Size, and set the resolution to 600 dpi.

Then, when you print, make sure the "image size" scrollbar at the
bottom of the print dialog is set to "PPI" and "600" ("use original
image size" should work too, though).

Don't have powerpoint, but it may be a good idea for those
having it.
I am on Linux, so DJ's gimp settings worked well for me.

Thx

Hi gnuvve,

If your on linux, there is a no-cost alternative to Microsoft office,
it is called Openoffice and can be downloaded from www.openoffice.org.
It is a similar suite as microsoft"s but you do not have to pay
ANYTHING thanks to GPL.
Which linux flavor do you have,(Red hat,Opensuse,Ubuntu,Debian),
download the corresponding RPM or DEB package, check if your version of linux is or is not 64-bit before downloading.
This package is can read doc, ppt, xls although it is not made by it.
It can open the usual Microsoft office documents.

Happy tinkering,

V.S.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
