Creating my first PCB | Having a confusion with mirror image being generated

Creating my first PCB | Having a confusion with mirror image being generated

2009-09-15 by Gaurav Verma

Hi

I use Tina for all my simulations and work. It also allows me to create my
PCB's

Being small time I would use toner transfer method for my work..
This is where my confusion starts.

To better explain my problem I have uploaded two files at the location
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Homebrew_PCBs/files/First_PCB/

The first file is InvAmp.Gif, this is the image of the PCB I see when it is
auto generated.

The next file is InvAmp.pdf which is the print I will get and is a mirror
image.

I think I am not suppose to use the mirror image for the work when I am
using toner transfer or am I thinking wrong ??

This may be very silly but I am just not sure.

My actual circut is quite different but I just used this simple inverting
amp of an opamp to demonstrate my query.

Thanks
Regards

The reversed image will transfer correctly to a board. All toner
transfer layers when printed must be mirror images. You should not be
able to read the print directly.

Look at the diagram through the paper when held up to light. The
toner side should be facing the light. That toner will be transferred
to the board as you see it through the paper. At this point, you
should be able to read the letters.

You do use the mirror image. Try the experiment with a piece of
paper. Try to transfer the image from the paper (cheap paper, scrap
of board) to the board. You should see the image properly.

In some programs, you may or may not automatically print the bottom
layer reversed, you do, this is good. It saves a step.

I usually print mirror image for the "top", and normal for the bottom
- which already has text and stuff backwards.

But I've almost always done 1-layer top-only boards, so I can only be
trusted for the "top"

Obviously the TT process inherently mirrors when you iron on. If you
print it, turn the printed side away from you and look through the
paper with a bright light behind it, and what you see looks wrong,
then don't transfer it and you've only wased a sheet of paper.
