Joe,
If you have the Hakko 850B, the only thing you need is a square nozzle.
But you do not need the exact shape, one that is close (just a bit bigger) should work OK.
you put solder paste on the pads, place the part carefully, and then reflow.

I use an embossing gun ($14 at Hobby Lobby) to reflow most of my parts up to 100 QFP without trouble.
above 100, it is a bit tricky but feasible.

For hand soldering I use a single large via in the pad with a large 
soldering iron tip.
