Which SMT package is easier & quicker to solder ?
PDIP-8 or SOIC-8

It's for a TLC555 chip.

Alan,

PDIP-8 is a Trough-Hole package, while SO-8 is SMT.
It all depend on your soldering skills, but I would say BOTH are easy.

PDIP is through-hole.

OOPS!
What I meant to say was the IC is available in
SOIC-8, SOP-8, and TSSOP-14.
Is one package easier to solder than the other two?

As a newbie to SMD soldering myself, I find two things are really useful:

1. Google " footprint". So something like "SOIC-8 footprint" and you'll get the dimensions.

2. If you're more of a "visual" person, then just print it out. Every PCB design software has the ability to print out your PCB at 1:1. Just add the parts (no need to connect them to anything) and print it out (again, make sure it's 1:1).

Either one of these should allow you to figure out footprint is best for your personal needs

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
