search this group's archives for "PCB software". This is the
semi-monthly posting of that question.

Of course there is also the bunch of links in the links section of
the group website.

And if you find any not there. Please add them.

Thanks for the post. These were two I hadn't seen before. WinGCad looks particularly interesting.

Hey, I found this one that looks pretty good. I haven't got a chance
to really dig in and give it a whirl:

http://www.expresspcb.com/index.htm
But it's free and their prices for the boards is very reasonable,
especially for trial runs at boards.

I'll put it in the links section if it isn't already.

PCB Software

2006-04-01 by LogicResearch

Hi Everyone,

I'm was about to purchase Easy-PC but just wondered if anyone can suggest a good software package at a good price that can do it all.
From what I found they are either very expensive or totally hopeless - easy-pc seemed to have good performance for cost.

cheers,

Daryl.

I used Easy-PC for 20 years or so, it's about the best of the lower-cost
packages.

Hi Daryl,

I started using Eagle CAD because (1) it runs on both linux and
Windows and (2) the price was good (free for a limited size board).

(The only other CAD program I used was OrCAD.) Anyway, I came to
love Eagle CAD after learning how to use it. There is also a Yahoo
Users' Group for it called eaglecad.

Although my experience is limited, I must say I really, really like
CAD. Maybe I'm just displaying my ignorance, but that's how I feel
right now.

Take a look at WinQCAD from microcad. I purchased the 500 pin version.
One neat feature is that is can layout the jumpers on the other side
of the board on single sided boards.

I've actually had board made from their Gerber files without issue.

I think it was $150.

Target is also in that price range, 700 pins for 150eur, does
bridges/jumpers too.
Please add all those great suggestions in the database section to the list
of layout packages.

Hi Daryl:

I've been using Kicad for a little over a month, and completing the third project in that time. I haven't had any boards commercially made yet, just TT. It works great, easy to learn, and free. The development is very active, too.

have a good one.

Try KICAD. It works very well and has the same interface on both Windows and Linux. Best part is it is
FREE.

Hi,

With Eagle, how do you select a pad or object on the board you have just
routed and change it?
The connections to solder components in are very small and I'd like to make
them bigger.
Looks like a good chunk of software if you can drive it.
Also how do you force it to do single sided boards?

cheers,

Daryl.

The easiest way would be to change the width of the trace. If you
want to have varying widths, use Ripup to delete the trace and Route
to reroute. Select the width you want for each segment.

> Looks like a good chunk of software if you can drive it.

Set the preferred routing direction for the layer you don't want to
use to N/A in Autorouter setup.

Dennis

We use Easy-PC here at work. It works good and although it has its
minor annoyances, generally is decent. We have the extra pro router
and the pro-library for it. The router does a reasonable job routing
and only slight modification is needed post routing.

It's used a lot in schools. It isn't much use for serious PCB design.
