http://www.epson.co.jp/e/newsroom/news_2004_11_01.htm This prints conductors and insulating layers in subsequent passes. Time will tell if this is viable and also can trickle down into a hobbyists's realm. The specs are neat. 50 micron line width, 110 micron line pitch, at 25.4 microns per mil, that is 2 mil width on 4.4 mil pitch. Do that with your Staples paper!

That is very interesting although it looks like a technology announcement with no product mentioned. I suspect that it will be a while before this becomes commercially viable (at fairly high cost) and longer yet to get reasonable cost for the little guys. It would also be cool to see at least resistors become printable and then caps. I suspect semiconductors are a ways off... --- In Homebrew_PCBs@yahoogroups.com, "thespeakerguy" <thespeakerguy@y...> wrote: > > http://www.epson.co.jp/e/newsroom/news_2004_11_01.htm > > This prints conductors and insulating layers in subsequent passes. > > Time will tell if this is viable and also can trickle down into a > hobbyists's realm. Somebody finally did it. It sure took long enough. I suggested this approach over 15 years ago when I was in the duPont electronics department. Of course I couldn't get mamagement to look beyond their current product line. I'd like to think that our ink jet guys make the inks, but probably not.

Epson leads the way in inkjet printers. I think they are the best and most dependible I have ever used (although I have only used a few). They are also the first to make a low cost DVD/CD printing printer, the R200 ($99). This will be awesome for not having to use etchant, not having to send out PCBs, ... all around very good.
