They were happening with core audio and builtin hardware. I re-insalled M-Audios driver and the AUdiophile 2496 board - but I got immediate and more or less continuual intermitement digital distortion. I then tried to change back to core audio but it would not sound - even after reboot. I finally uninstalled all Maudio drivers to get back to core audio.
