I remember a couple of years back when Bill Gates was quoted 
(apocryphally, perhaps) as saying something like, "If the car had 
developed like the computer has, it would cost five hundred dollars and 
get two hundred miles to the gallon ."  To which a wag replied, "It 
would cost five hundred dollars, get two hundred miles to the gallon, 
and explode once a year, killing all its occupants."

If it were only once a year;-)
