I can pop ram in, in 60 seconds without any tools. Pop the side of the case off, pull off the plastic insert, and the fan slide out, then the ram slots are right there. I have also installed and taken out a second hard disk without tools. The one problem I have had a few times with the G5 (when installing PCI boards) is a little screw getting loose and rolling around. I make sure to always get these out, as I had a problem like this with a powerbook, which ended up frying the motherboard when the screw shorted something out. So I tip the case a certain way so if a screw falls, it falls harmlessly on place it can't roll away.
