I sure like it better than the vocoders of the Korg Triton (which I've sold) and the Access Virus. What I did for the Kylie/C&C thing was first finding a preset that was more or less what I wanted. You can divide vocoder sounds into the more legato string-y kinda sounds and the more articulate ones. For this project I wanted one of the latter. I'm not sitting in front of my Mac right now, but I vaguely recall the preset to have the word "Dark" in it, like "Dark Moon" or something. I guess it's all a matter of personal taste, but I start with turning off any resonance (both controls) and see if I need as many bands as the preset has. Turning those down can sometimes make the preset a little better. Stereo width is really an effect. Turn it off unless you want to position your vocoder like that in the panoramic view of your music. The big changes are really in the amount of bands, the blue horizontal frequency control for the bandpass filters, formant stretch and formant shift (provided you started with a useful preset). Oh yes... experiment with different octaves. What sounds like a cheesy alto voice can do wonders in the tenor, bass or even lower octaves. Easiest with the transpose control in the left parameter part of your arrange window. Hope this helps! Hens Zimmerman -- http://www.hz37land.com
