Hi,

Just thought I'd share something I made with Logic 7.1:

http://www.hz37land.com/cckylie.mp3

It's a "mashup" of two existing records, "Slow" by Kylie
Minogue and "Gonna Make You Sweat" by the C&C Music
Factory. You'll here a lot of Logic editing and f/x,
and I'm also an avid user of those SmartElectronix
plugins.

If any of you have something to share, that would be fun
too. Love to hear what everybody else is doing with this
most amazing music software.

Have fun!

PS: Can't wait until DigiDesign brings out a CoreAudio
driver so I can check out OSX Tiger.

Hey, nice one, Hens!

I'm sure that could very easily get some club play...

As a matter of interest, how much use did you make of midi & audio instruments/VSTi's?
Or was it most lost of slicing audio regions by hand?

Cheers,
Gareth

Yeah, its pretty good. Its surprisingly how well the two go together. I would never have thought to combine those two. Did you make the stutter edits on the Make You Sweat synth riff by just cutting the audio, or layer another synth playing the same part.

I have an Access Virus Indigo, which I used to make the sound
after she says "electric" (which I handcrafted in SoundDiver
Mac, recorded to disk and added as an audio file).

There's a whole bunch of EXS24 stuff and the EVOC vocoder going
on, which is the only MIDI/matrix editing happening in this file.
I do use Logic audio instruments quite a lot. Like for instance,
this thing I did with a bunch of local rappers is all ES2 and
EXS24:

Well.. I created my own software for that, which is slowly
becoming quite popular by the way. It's PC Windows only,
but that's because I'm still figuring out how to do
Mac programming. Anyways, it's a free download if you need
it:

or just

It's freeware, just for your fun.
I'm working on a multifile/multibar upgrade (Windows).

Best regards,

The EVOC20 seems to have a lot of potential but I don't end up getting that much useful out of it. Do you have any tips?

It was a real shame to hear of Kylie's diagnosis of breast cancer,
she's been in my thoughts recently. I'm not a huge fan of hers, but
it's always distressing to hear of a fellow musician succumbing to an
illness like this. From what I understand she is a brilliant and lovely
person, and I hope with all my heart she gets over this and continues
to make good songs for us to mash up : )

The mash up you posted is excellent...

I sure like it better than the vocoders of the Korg Triton
(which I've sold) and the Access Virus.

What I did for the Kylie/C&C thing was first finding a
preset that was more or less what I wanted. You can divide
vocoder sounds into the more legato string-y kinda sounds
and the more articulate ones. For this project I wanted
one of the latter. I'm not sitting in front of my Mac right
now, but I vaguely recall the preset to have the word
"Dark" in it, like "Dark Moon" or something.

I guess it's all a matter of personal taste, but I start
with turning off any resonance (both controls) and see
if I need as many bands as the preset has. Turning those
down can sometimes make the preset a little better.

Stereo width is really an effect. Turn it off unless you
want to position your vocoder like that in the panoramic
view of your music.

The big changes are really in the amount of bands, the
blue horizontal frequency control for the bandpass filters,
formant stretch and formant shift (provided you started
with a useful preset).

Oh yes... experiment with different octaves. What sounds
like a cheesy alto voice can do wonders in the tenor,
bass or even lower octaves. Easiest with the transpose
control in the left parameter part of your arrange window.

Hope this helps!

I know what you're saying. I have always had a weak spot for her.
Back in the 80's when she started with the Stock, Aitken, Waterman
production "I Should Be So Lucky", everyone predicted she was a
"one hit wonder" with no vocal talents whatsoever. And she proved
them all wrong.

Looks like they caught it in time, if you look at kylie.com.

Yah she definitely has had staying power and even re-conquered the
finicky American music marketplace, which can be very unfriendly to
foreigners...

I think you're right but it's still scary- maybe we can start a Kylie
Mash Up benefit to raise money for breast cancer or something...are
many of her recordings available in accapella versions?
