Multi Core Processors in june 2006

2005-05-06 by garygenn

Hey Guys I just read on the AMD site that they came out with multi core processors. that is
pretty cool except I am stuck on if I should invest the 2 + G's for a dual G5 or just try to
deal with what i got now and wait till next year when they come out. I was even thinking
just getting an imac 2ghz because thay are not that expensive and they are just cool
computers that would handle working on it.

what do you guys think? any comments ,sugggestion or advice I would like to hear it.

Well thats AMD. AMD is not IBM or Apple, and this doesnt mean that Apple
is coming out with dual core CPU's anytime soon. You can wait and see,
or you can get a really killer machine right now that should last quite
along time as far as processing power goes.

There was an article a few months ago that Apple and IBM ARE working on mutli-core machines based on one of IBM's higher end computers which is already in existence. It will be coming to us too.

Well the IBM dual-core topic has been around much longer than a few
months. And we still havent seen one yet.. Theyre probably very close by
now I wouldnt doubt it (cant wait for a new Powerbook myself) but people
shouldnt assume that because AMD and Intel have released cpus, that
Apple will be releasing them next year.. Apple isnt gonna post a release
date on anything like that until its ready to come out (good old 30 day
policy). Users needing more power shouldnt hold off due to rumors
(especially when were talking about next summer)... The current line of
G5s alone are so powerful unless you really really need to wait I
wouldnt do it based on a rumor! Although if they do come out next
summer, Im gonna be stoked as hell cause that will be about my 4-5 year
mark on my current system and it'll be upgrade time for me hehe!!

Apple will likely announce dual-core processor machiens sometime this
year or early next. The new consoles' capabilities probably pushed back
their timeline a bit, since no existing desktop computer can match the
raw power of the xbox II or the PS3.

This 'report', as you call it, has been around for years now. It comes
up every few months or so. Ill believe it when I see it firsthand.

And from what I gather in the article it doesnt mean your mac is going
to run on an x86 chip. Apple is looking at Intel's consumer line for
things like the iPod.
