In the local audio menu in Arrange there is a "Turn region to 
individual audio" or something like this. I think you can do it via a 
key command. Soooo...

I would copy the region just like normal - option drag or option shift 
drag (alias) and then invoke the previous mentioned command. I reckon 
that would take about 2 seconds and would leave the new audio file in 
place in the arrange window as required....

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
