Re: [Logic_Cafe] MUSIC HEAD LOOKING FOR ADVICE AND SOME DIRECTION..PLEASE HELP!!

2006-08-15 by GAmoore@aol.com

I have the Axiom 25 and it fits on the desk behind the alphanumeric
keyboard quite nicely. In general, I would go simple, and gradually get
more complicated. I wouldn't buy a bunch of extra software until you
actually need it. Logic gives a pretty comprehenisive overall solution.
I would suggest the Apple training guide for Logic, and the books by
Len Sasso and Robert Bennet. I have not seen the DVD, but it would
probably be helpful too. Remember the main purpose is to make music,
not to accumulate musical gear.

Subject: [Logic_Cafe] MUSIC HEAD LOOKING FOR ADVICE AND SOME
DIRECTION..PLEASE HELP!!

HEY EVERYONE, I have previously left message's similar to
this one
but the point is still an extremely relevant one to me, so any and
all help would be greatly appreciated (i guess thats the main reason
I joined anyway). Basically heres my situation in a nutshell, I am
very new to computer based music production, I own logic express 7.1
and an imac G5 as well as some analog gear, my decks, giant
collection of beloved records, plus a genuine need to express myself
musically. The major problem is I am having a very hard time getting
started, in logic and in how to use plug ins, the best gear I should
purchase (on a budget, but also hate buying shit gear because of the
price), and basically I need to start learning buy trial and error
but don't know where to start. I am interested many different genres
of music but when it comes to writing it, mainly drum and bass, and
hip hop. It has been suggested to me before to get the DVD tutorial
for logic as a starting point, my question is it worth the money that
could be used on buying gear or software, or is there somewhere on
the net it can be downloaded or something of that nature?? I have
been reading loads and loads on the net and understand generally all
the terms, but sometimes get outdated advice or conflicting advice.
2nd, what MIDI keyboard should I get? I want something with ease of
use, computers already confuse me enough so I want to start using the
keyboard with the least amount of headaches... my top consideration
has been the Novation remoteXL or some the M.Audio gear namely the
Axion, any suggestions here? 3rd software plug ins, where do i start?
need some sick synth sounds, so the moog and papen soft synths
interrogate me, MOSTLY I AM CONFUSED ABOUT, soft samplers... I know
logic comes with a nice one, have read extensively about NI Kontack
2, as well as several others, my question is how do you take samples
with a soft sampler. Should i sample them with my SU700 than transfer
them into garageband, convert to .wav then import into soft sampler,
or is there an easier less time consuming method. Also after I do
take the samples how do I start grooving them into logic, like
basically how do I write a drum track, loop.. record then start
layering other sounds, this is also a complete mystery to me. I have
many many other questions, but will keep it at these for the time:
were do I start with logic.. 2. what keyboard/audio interface should
I get.. 3. plug ins/VST/and mostly soft-samplers...4. again how to
start writing, even if shit at 1st, i need to start making music
again.. TAHNK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AS A FELLOW MUSICIAN I KNOW HOW
PRESSED FOR TIME WE ALL ARE, AND ANSWERING A BEGINNERS QUESTION IS
NOT ON THE PRIORITY LIST, BUT PLEASE HELP ANYONE. GOOD KARMA WILL
FOLLOW, BECAUSE I LOVE MUSIC, IT IS MY LIFE I JUST NEED SOME COMPUTER
 BASED PRODUCTION HELP.
 THANK YOU.
 peace, advanced
