the only way to get Ultrabeat is probably to get Logic Pro or Logic Pro academic. However,
there are a number of similar plug ins you can buy.
- Linplug's RMIV plays samples and generates tones, and I got it on a group buy for under
$60 awhile back.
-I mainly use Battery by NI - it doesn't generate its own tones, but you can add multiple
samples to each of 72 cells, and shape the sound of each cell with a lot of processing
capabilties. Its currently being sold very cheaply via NI's 10 year anniversary sale that will end
soon.
- ther are a bunch of other ones which are more sample based but often have loops - RMX
Stylus? Drumcore, Drumline, ... i forgot their names.

But all of them work with Audio Units. And I assume Logic Express would allow you to use
those, since Garage Band allows for AU plugs.
