Gents (and Ladies)....look like it's a "Pro" vs "Express" feature:

Seems the MIDI tracks are in auto record mode as soon as u hit the 
main record button in the transport window (the movies I see ,as in 
the ond below, I see are all featuring Logic Pro....)

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
