No it's a totally seperate application from Logic designed for live  
performance hosting of AU's and effects. In other words if you want  
to play guitar in a Band and use Guitar Amp Pro and some other  
effects, you do not need to have a Logic Session open.

They have thrown in quite a bit. I would review more carefully the  
information on the Apple site, there are numerous performance  
enhancements and content additions. Whether those are worth the  
nominal upgrade price *to you* is subjective, but I know plenty who  
have already ordered their upgrades and full versions.
