Usually true, altho some companies do offer academic upgrades. However, there's a 
possible wrinkle in the Logic issue:

>if your XSkey says "retail" you can upgrade; if it says "academic" you cannot.

It seems that some people got a retail XSkey with their academic Logic 7, while others got 
an academic one.

I'd love to hear from anyone who actually proved this distinction to be true!
