This is great advice for any computer if you're trying to wring every last bit of power out of it. I have and old 12" Powerbook that I use as a live keyboard rig running Logic's instruments and I get better performance at lower CPU by disabling ALL network ports. The easiest way to do this is to go to Network Preferences, save your existing location setup first and then create a new Location with a name like "Live Playing" with ALL network ports deleted - ethernet, bluetooth, internal modem, firewire (this last one doesn't affect using Firewire for a hard drive or interface)etc... Then you can simply switch between locations from the Location menu in the Finder Apple Menu. I used to turn them all on/ off individually until I discovered this. Just thought others might like to know.
