Thanks, Man.

So, you're telling me it only happens with the MOTU 828--not with any  
of their other interfaces?  On one hand, though irritating, I have  
been able to co-exist with this problem; but on the other, it  
certainly doesn't sound professional and it is maddening that I  
sometimes have to sit there and wait for a reboot or something.  I'd  
hate to spend anything on another interface but I'm wondering how  
important it is to get rid of this popping and cracking.  I just did a  
string session and had to make the musicians go back for only one take  
---it really wasn't a big deal.
