Re: [Logic_Cafe] Midi Takes

2008-07-11 by GAmoore@aol.com

You have always been able to do something pretty similar. Go into cycle mode
(select a region, make sure the green bar is lit on the bar list at the top
then record) and play your midi on a midi track. There is a preference to create
new tracks with each pass or not, otherwise it overlaps them I think. In each
case, it automatically mutes the previous pass and so you can have like 20
new tracks for the same midi channel capturing each take. At then end you can
unmute these tracks, and cut and paste freely. You can also select notes in a
single take in the matrix editor, use a key command to set the locators by
events and it will only select around those notes, then use a key command to cut
along the locator boundaries. then go to the arrange window and move this
straight down to a new track. in this way you can get all the best bits note by
note. you can also use the mute or solo tools (unmute all first before using solo
tool) to audition the various takes captured to each track, in the end just
pack them all into a folder, or delete them and delete the extra tracks.

one cool thing about logic is that you can just play the cycle too, even
without recording, and if you like what you played, stop or pause logic
immediately, then use the key command to capture the last take. Logic will have recorded
it even if its not in record mode. However, if you loops around to the start
again, then it will start a new take and you will have lost the previous one.
So better to put it in record mode.
