Yeah, Finale has a whole range of products from free to $500. Notepad is
free, then there is one that is lik $50 then $100 then $200 then $500. The lower
priced versions are definitely a good deal. I just found that they left out
some very important little details - even for making a simple piece. Also they
are not all built on the same version of Finale - some on Finale 2007 or 2008 or
2009 so you can't necessarily open the files from one to another even
downgrading. I just have some songs with a vocal staff and maybe a piano and
sometimes a bass staff and want a tempo, chords, and lyrics. (I never found a way to
spit two notes that it beamed as a chord when they were sequential melody notes
though). Finale of all varieties is not that easy to learn but I learned
enough to do make some lead sheets, but it just seemed more hassle than it should
be.
But maybe someone else would be well served by their lower priced products.
You can download Notepad for free.
