thanks. you kind of lost me. where do you stretch the note? In the score or in one of the other editors? In case I wasn't clear in my original post what I want to do is make a note
that starts on beat one of a measure last for 2 measures.

I usually use a key command to merge the two notes. To make it exactly 8
beats, I would stretch it out to 9 beats or whatever, then set the cycle locators
to 8 beats, and then use a key command to snip the note to the locator
position. then delete any bits before or after. In fact, often the note does not
start at the beginning of the measure, so I move it ahead of the beat then stretch
it big, then do what I said above.
