Can anyone tell me how to tie two whole notes together in score so the duration of the note is 8 counts?

The quickest way I've found to do this is to use the event editor, delete the second whole note and change the length of the first one to be 8 counts. Another way would be to use the glue tool in the piano roll and simply glue the two notes together. I nearly always have the event window open when creating scores for this reason... I usually use a key command to merge the two notes. To make it exactly 8 beats, I would stretch it out to 9 beats or whatever, then set the cycle locators to 8 beats, and then use a key command to snip the note to the locator position. then delete any bits before or after. In fact, often the note does not start at the beginning of the measure, so I move it ahead of the beat then stretch it big, then do what I said above. ************** AOL Search: Your one stop for directions, recipes and all other Holiday needs. thanks. you kind of lost me. where do you stretch the note? In the score or in one of the other editors? In case I wasn't clear in my original post what I want to do is make a note that starts on beat one of a measure last for 2 measures. David --- On Mon, 11/10/08, GAmoore@... <GAmoore@...m> wrote:

sorry... i go to the piano roll (matrix) and move it to start before the first beat, then stretch it long, then set locators and snip using a key command. there might be some key command to quantize to beat too that might help. ************** AOL Search: Your one stop for directions, recipes and all other Holiday needs. In the score inspector, just double click on the "Length" value, enter in 2 (for 2 measures) and <return>. If you had previously created a 2nd note on the 2nd measure that you were trying to tie to the 1st note, delete it.
