It always seemed strange to me how mastering engineers would have extremely expensive equipment and speakers to tweak things - but almost no listenter of music has that quality of stuff to listen to the music on. I think two things can help home mastering... one of the various multi-meter plug ins (Logic has a built-in one, but there are 3rd party ones too like Elemental Audio, or Waves Paz). The other thing is to go to the thrift store and buy some cheap computer speakers from 10 years ago. If your mix sounds good on those, and your car stereo and your home stereo then there seems little to worry about.
