RE: [Logic_Cafe] Re: MainStage power

2009-05-07 by Lucas, Bryan

related to this thread... I had my first live performance utilizing Mainstage and must say I was a bit nervous, but it went amazingly well and I'm hooked on it.

1) I have a standard 2-tier keyboard stand and on the top shelf I put a 3/4"x10"x48" piece of laminated board. I set my laptop, audio interface and music 'crib' sheets there during performance. It is easy to transport and setup and gives me enough work surface to get by.
2) Ditto on the power comments. I bring my own UPS, power strip and heavy duty extension cord.
3) I have no trouble sustaining the final notes of one song and switching patches for the next song. There was no delay or waiting, it was instantaneous. That is on either MacBook Pro I've tried it on, one is new with 4GB RAM and the other is about 2 years old.

The only frustration was with the sound tech and it was my fault. I had my vocals, acoustic guitar, keyboard and on some songs the drum track, all coming out one stereo channel (1-2) of my PreSonus Firebox. He wasn't able to 'tweak' the individual levels during the performance. I guess I need to figure out how to set my software channels to come out of different physical channels on the Firebox.

Do most of you do that and if so how? I only seem to have 3 L/R channels (1-2, 3-4, and 5-6) rather than 6 discrete output channels. I suspect I have stereo output selected somewhere, but haven't figured out where.

Thanks,
Bryan Lucas

Glad it went well and was successful..

And Yep a UPS is very helpful.. IMHO always an invaluable tool and cheap peace of mind.. I guess you can appreciate why if you lost power.
At least it was recoverable and all worked fine in the end.

Steve,

I ended up plugging into a power strip which went straight into the generator. The generator clicked off once, and we reset the GFCI tabs at the plug site, and everything was fine. No problem at all, MainStage worked like a charm. That is a really cool piece of software. I may go with a UPS next time, just for a little added safety.

Plus, the weather was great and the runners really seemed to like us! We played for 3 1/2 hours without a break!

Mike
