7.  I was able to convert all mine (same situation) using 7, but not 8.

Express has most of the same functionality as pro, so you might get  
by with that.  I did some that way.  Any plugin that is not included  
in express would lose its settings.  For example, I had used the  
EXSP24 for a while, and none of that transferred over to EXS24, even  
though it can use the same instrument files.

I don't remember exactly, but I definitley had some version of 7  
working on Intel.  I just tried to find 7 to test it out, but  
apparently I deleted it.  Funny, I still have 5.5.1 in my apps folder  
though.  Not sure why.  I tried launching, but it didn't like my  
XSKey.  Were we still using the serial boxes back then?!

Strike that.  I just found 7.1.1 on my audio drive, so I know that  
ver. works on intel.   I also launched express 7.2, and reallized it  
doesn't have any of the plugs you mention, so all that would be lost.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
