Yes. 

The manual suggests in the platinum version you can layer the
different mic position samples and do a submix within the Kompakt multi.

I also find it handy for scores, e.g you can have arco violins on
channel 1, pizz on channel 2. That way both pizz and arco appear on
the same part, but sound with the right sample as you asign channel;s.
Yes I know you could also do this by cabling a MIDI instrument to two
separate audio instances (that's what I do with EXS for instance) but
the multi thing is a bit simpler.

Same applies to "doubling" and all different kinds of samples with
different articulations.
