Yes, the MIDI channel for the region/sequence overrides the MIDI
channel attached to each note, (unless the parameter for the channels
is set to "all" in which case the channel of the individial notes will
apply as the MIDi channel sent for example to external modules.
As far as I am concerned the main use for the notes' channel is for
score display purposes, eg polyphonic parts which show several
different lines displayed on the score in order to get authentic
polyphonic music manuscripts.
I would rarely go in and edit individual notes. In the case of
arco/pizz it is not so common to have just one note of pizz among all
arco, more likely there are sections of each with lots of notes. I
either decide in advance and set the default so that the notes I enter
into the score have the correct channel, or else "rubber band" a
selection of a notes that I want pizz and change the channel in the
score parameter box.
For polyphonic parts there's a handy line splitter tool (can't
remember it's actual name) which you can use to draw a wiggly line
over or under notes which automatically assigns the notes above/below
that line to whichever polyphonic part and its associated MIDI channel
you have preselected. very neat.
