I'm using a ISA430 pre with the digital option straight into my G5 via
the optical input. Pretty handy as you don't have to deal with drivers
and all that. Latency is about the same as with any other card. I
usually monitor everything through the G5, but sometimes I also plug
the pre straight into the mixer to better control the volume for
monitoring and zero latency.

As for the DA, I recommended a friend of mine the Presonus Central
Station. Lots of routing options, you can hook up a remote controller
and the best thing is that it gets rid of the ground noise of the G5 as
it is connected via optical wire. I want to buy one, but... not enough
money yet :)
