working with ultrabeat

working with ultrabeat

2005-04-11 by Michael Tuminello

I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers for working with
ultrabeat.

either an easy way to record an ultrabeat pattern to a track as audio,
or better yet, a way to place midi patterns in the sequence window for
x number of bars, and just have them play ultrabeat (I'm used to
working with reason for this sort of thing, in case anyone is familiar
with that and could use it as a touchstone). right now it just plays
forever, and I have not found an easy way to work with it. I
discovered how to turn patterns on and off with midi notes, but as a
toggle it often does not work as I would like it to.

thanks -

Michael

I'm not familiar with ultrabeat but isn't it a software plug-in midi
instrument? If so, why not just write the midi info in logic and just
call the track an audio intrumental track using the ultrabeat?

I just control it as an Audio Instrument: i.e. write all the patterns in the
matrix window (piano scroller) and copy/paste/etc in the Arrange window.
Just as you would do a synth or sampler track. And while I haven't tried it,
there's triggering the Ubeat sequences with the lowest octaves.

In the Logic 7.1 upgrade, Apple has made Ultrabeat the focus of a lot of
bug/usability fixes, and looks like it will be a lot more easy to use as a
drum machine, as well as having the ability (at last) to export drum
sequences as MIDI files to the Arrange window.

I've ordered mine, and am looking forward to getting more functionality from
Ultrabeat.
