hard disc partitioning?

hard disc partitioning?

2005-05-16 by tony vincent

logic users
using a dual g5 w/ logic pro 7.1, i need to know the best allocation for disc performance. i have 2 internal hard drives (HD) and two external firewire (FW) drives. the the moment i have HD-1 for system oxs and all applications (incl logic), HD-2 for all audio files and one of the two firewire drives for my exs samples. is there a better set up i should use? i\u2019m reformatting my main hard drive (HD-1) and i want to know how i should allocate files for the best performance.
thanks in advance for the help!

I am only conjecturing, and I imagine someone like Nick could give a better answer, but I suppose it would be best to keep the system on one disk, samples on a firewire disk, and audio on the second hard disk. I was reading that the LaCie drives (which I own seveal of) are not as fast as some others by the way. You can buy firewire 800 enclosures and put existing drives in them - I ended up putting the second drive from my old G4 into a firewire 400 box and it works fine - plus has some cool neon lights that make the wait more enjoyable.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
