G5 node

G5 node

2004-12-24 by GAmoore@aol.com

Sometimes I play with the idea of getting a G5 but how would I use one keyboard and two monitors to share with two computers? I don't want to have to double everything - for the expense, and desktop real estate. It seems silly to fork over for a G5 then never use for anything more than a node - and continue using my G4 for photoshop and everything else. Then there is the issue of disk authorizations for plugs too.

By the way, Yahoo is experiencing some sort of huge delay. I posted a message last night and it took 10 hours or so before it appeared.

A KVM switch, but I'm not sure that you need it for Logic Node.

I use an IOGear 4-port Miniview. Works great - I use the Mac keyboard and mouse for one Mac and three Windows machines. You switch machines from the keyboard.

Authorizations don't matter, because Logic Node only works for Logic plug-ins.

Most folks with multiple computers use a KVM
(keyboard, video, mouse) switch, which lets you switch
which computer is currently receiving input from the
keyboard and mouse as well as which computer is
currently displaying to the monitor. Switching
between machines is as simple as pressing a special
key combination on the keyboard or punching a button
on the switch itself, and you'll be able to use both
machines, to their full capacity (including different
video resolutions on each machine if you are so
inclined).

Thanks, I'll look into that. I think i'll wait until Steve Jobs introduces the next speed increase, and then pick up one of the current G5 models discounted.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
